February is American Heart Month!

Did you know that February was officially declared American Heart Month by an Act of Congress on December 30, 1963, to combat cardiovascular disease?

 Here are some interesting statistics:
    1. Leading cause of death for men, women, and most racial and ethnic groups.
    2. One person dies every 33 seconds from cardiovascular disease.
    3. 702,880 deaths in 2022, accounting for 1 in 5 deaths.
    4. Costs approximately $252.2 billion annually.
Prevention
The ABCS of prevention can help reduce cardiovascular disease risk:
    A. Appropriate aspirin or anticoagulant use.
    B. Blood pressure control.
   C. Cholesterol management.
    S. Smoking cessation.
How can you participate in American Heart Month? Here are a few ways:
1. Wear Red: Participate in National Wear Red Day on February 7, 2025.
2. Educate and Raise Awareness: Share heart health information, personal stories, and prevention tips.
3. Support Heart Health Research: Donate to reputable organizations funding heart health research.
4. Volunteer: Volunteer with a local organization to help create a healthier community 
Above all know your CPR!  Join efforts around the country to promote heart health in your community. Remember February 7, 2025, is National Wear Red Day.  Wear something red and post on your social media, talk to family, friends and your patients to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease!
